Producing Your Own Custom Jewelry

 
There are generally two methods to have your personal piece of custom jewelry made if you want to produce one and the first method is to go to a jeweler that creates individual jewelry and have them create it to your specifications. The other method to have it made is to make or shape it yourself in wax and then have a jeweler mold it in gold or sterling silver for you. The author of this article began his love affair with gothic jewelry via the first method.
 
Casting is basically how ornaments is made, although there is finishing work that has to be completed after it is molded, the rudimentary form of the creation is resolved in wax. It has been established as the "lost wax way" which has been in use for thousands of years. The blueprint is first made in wax by means of sculpting or dental wax.  Plain paraffin wax won't make it because it is too solid and unbending and bees wax is very supple.  Paraffin wax would bring about inflexible looking design, chipped edges and a dented blade while Beeswax would disintegrate before the jeweler can begin work.
 
The wax ring or bracelet is after that given to the jeweler who then encloses the wax sculpture in plaster. After the plaster that encloses the wax ring or bracelet has hardened and dried it is inserted in a hot kiln so the wax piece found within can dissolve and burn out. After everything has been done, we will find a mass of plaster that has the hollow shape of the ring or bracelet originally filled the wax.
 
The goldsmiths and silversmiths use a centrifugal caster that spins around as the soften gold or silver is forced in to the unfilled place in the mass of plaster by the centrifugal force.  Finally After the gold or silver inside of the chunk of plaster has been allowed to cool the plaster is chipped away to reveal the jewelry piece where the wax ring or bracelet used to be found.
